Bulimia Therapy

Eating Disorder and Trauma Therapist

You try so hard to get this under control.

You’ve been struggling for way too long and can’t seem to get out of this cycle - eat way past the point of feeling full, maybe even to the point of getting sick and extreme discomfort. You can’t bare the feeling of this fullness in your stomach and your body begins to feel like a prison. The only thing that can provide you with relief is getting rid of this food. You purge until you can’t anymore. You try your best to do all of this in hiding. You feel disgusted and ashamed.

You want so desperately to get out of this cycle, so the next day, you try to be “good” and eat less. You start off eating as little as you can, it feels like the only way to gain control back. You avoid eating with others or eating your “binge foods” altogether. At some point, maybe at night or later that week, you cave. You just want to be able to eat your favorite snack and feel that you can control it. One thing leads to the next, one food leads to the next and before you know it, you’re back over the toilet trying to get rid of it all: the food, the guilt, the shame.

And the cycle repeats.

My Approach as a Bulimia Therapist

I’m Stephanie. I’m a therapist who helps women, ages 15 and up who struggle with their relationship with food, their bodies and themselves.

I understand how you get trapped in this cycle of binge, purge, restrict, repeat and I can help you get out of it. Therapy can be a safe place away from the cycle that has you stuck in shame. During our sessions, we will work on compassion and acceptance of yourself for the wonderful person that you are. I will give you action steps you can take right away that are going to help you start feeling better. My clients see me weekly so that we can work on those goals, work through those feelings, figure out what is and isn’t working and continue to take steps toward a recovered you.

You deserve to feel better and to not feel shame around yourself, your behaviors or your body. You are not doomed to live in this cycle forever. With the right help, we can get you moving toward your recovered self and experience a freer life without all of the shame.

  • In short, we don’t really know exactly what causes a person to develop Bulimia. However, we know that there are risk factors that make it more likely that a person develops Bulimia including genetic factors like a history of mental health issues in the family. There are also environmental factors such as a lot of focus on weight and food in the family, a parent who always makes comments about their own personal appearance or getting bullied.
