Body Image Therapy
You feel so uncomfortable in your own body that you just wish you could crawl out of your skin.
You dread getting ready in the morning, picking out an outfit and looking in the mirror. You compulsively check the mirror looking for any and every possible imperfection. You’re consumed with thoughts about what you hate about your body and what you wish you could change. You’ve tried diets and different types of clothing, expensive skin products and lots of makeup. You do anything you can to hide those imperfections. You may have considered taking more drastic measures like cosmetic procedures and maybe even plastic surgery.
You believe that you’d feel better if only you looked the way you want, but you know that that’s not really going to make you happy. You do whatever you can to avoid being seen - you isolate yourself, remain quiet and stay in your comfort zone. You do anything you can to hide your body under clothes. You dread summertime and having to choose between hiding under clothes, being sweltering hot and worried about what others think of you OR wearing less clothing, people seeing more of your body and still worried about what others think of you.
You’ve tried to change your body. You’ve tried to accept your body, but, no matter what, you struggle being in your own skin. You may have even written off your struggle as “normal” and that you should just “deal with it.” You don’t want to feel this way anymore, but you don’t know how to get out. It feels like the only options are continuing to live with this constant distress which sounds awful or to accept your body which sounds terrifying.
You don’t have to accept living your life in a constant battle with your mind and body. There is help.

A body image therapist will help you to identify the core as to why you feel this way and offer tools and new thoughts to help you to become more positive about your body. In short, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is often used to treat body image issues. I believe in personalizing my treatment approach to the individual using different therapeutic techniques which includes CBT, DBT, mindfulness skills amongst other techniques. One of the most important components of body image therapy is having a therapist who understands body image struggles and uses appropriate techniques to help you to heal from these struggles, and not unintentionally make them worse.

Body image therapy is incredibly helpful to heal body image.
