Eating Disorder and Trauma Therapist

You wake up in the morning already dreading the day ahead.

You slept through the night, but feel as though you didn’t get a second to rest. As you open your eyes, your mind immediately goes to that morning ritual where you go back and forth about the number on the scale and what that means for the day ahead. You wonder how much you have to punish yourself today and how much you deserve to eat.

You’re sick and tired of being sick and tired. You’re tired of the fight in your mind that happens over every meal, every snack, every social gathering, every workout. It doesn’t stop. Should you or shouldn’t you? Can you or can’t you? You started off with control, but now you recognize that you’ve lost the control. Food controls you. Your life is consumed. Your thoughts consist mostly of food, how your body looks, what people think of you and how to avoid that number on the scale from going up.

You’re exhausted.

You may not know exactly what’s wrong, but you know that this isn’t right. You know that you don’t want to feel this way anymore, but don’t see a way out. You doubt if you deserve or even want to get better. Maybe you’ve reached out for help before, but the therapist didn’t know how to help you and didn’t understand. You’re so afraid to open up again only to feel misunderstood. There is hope.

My Approach as an Anorexia Therapist

I’m Stephanie. I’m a therapist and I help women, ages 15 and up who struggle with their relationship with food, their bodies and themselves.

When you work with me, I’ll see you as a person, not as a disorder or a symptom. My clients describe a deep sense of relief even after our initial session because they finally feel understood and hopeful for the first time in a long time. I’m going to help you feel better. During our sessions, we work on the things that matter to you. We meet weekly to get you the best results and so that you are not alone as we navigate the challenges of recovery. You might find, as many of my clients do, that you can get to a place of recovery faster that you might have imagined.

You deserve help. You deserve to get better. You deserve to feel better. You are worthy, valuable and have so much to offer this world. You are just struggling greatly right now, but, with the right help, you don’t have to live this way forever.

Anorexia Therapy FAQs

  • As far as therapeutic treatment for Anorexia Nervosa goes, there are a combination of techniques that I have seen to be the most helpful for treatment. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) have been seen to be incredibly effective in Anorexia therapy. However, in my treatment approach, I see you as an individual and not as a diagnosis. I will individualize my treatment plan to best help you. I also believe in making sure that therapy helps you to know exactly how you can take what we talk about inside of therapy to the outside world. One way that we are able to do this is to work together to create realistic goals to work on from session to session.

  • Generally speaking, it is ideal that someone who is struggling with Anorexia Nervosa is regularly seeing an eating disorder therapist, a nutritionist and a medical doctor. Sometimes, it is recommended that an individual see a psychiatrist for medication purposes. This can seem overwhelming, but don’t worry. You eating disorder therapist can help you to put together a treatment team. I am always working to connect with other professionals so that I can provide the best referrals to my clients.

  • Anorexia is a serious disease, period. Many people will view the most serious cases of Anorexia as what you’d typically see in a textbook or a movie. While that does exist, most people with Anorexia aren’t experiencing that. That is not to say that the disease isn’t serious. It is, so I would say that if you are here on this page, you are struggling enough to where it’s serious enough and now is the time to reach out for help. The earlier you get help, the much better for you!
